Animal Farm Essay
In society not all people are treated equally. Usually the people with the most power get treated the best. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, the pigs get treated the best. The pigs are the most intelligent animals on the farm. They can read, write, and be leaders. Every other animal on the farm is below the pigs. Some examples of the inequality on the farm is when the pigs got the apples and milk, changed the seven commandments, and did less work than the other animals.
The first unequal event the pigs did is they got the apples and the milk. The pigs were able to trick the other animals, and take the apples and milk. They came up with a bogus excuse on why they needed the apples and milk. A pig named squealer said “our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health” (Orwell 25). It is not fair that the pigs get the apples and milk. Not every animal is treated equally. Usually the animals with the brains get treated the best, and are able to manipulate the rules.
The pigs also changed the commandments. They could read and write, so it was easy for them to change the rules. They keep changing rule after rule to benefit themselves. They took out all the rules, except for one. The last commandment read that “all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others” (Orwell 92). That shows that the not all the animals are equal. Clearly the pigs were more equal than the other animals. They were wiser so they are automatically at the top.
The pigs do less work than every other animal on the farm. The pigs are mostly the brains of the operations. They think of the ideas, and tell others to do the work. For example when most of the animals were working hard to prepare the harvest, the pigs were regulating and supervising. “The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised others.” (Orwell 19). It shows the pigs do not carry their own weight. Also when everyone was working on the windmill the pigs were not helping at all. They are just being pigs.
. The pigs put themselves on top. It made the whole farm unequal. The pigs were the most important animals, and before everyone else. This book is really reflective of the real world today. People, who have the brains or the money, are usually powerful. It is important to treat everyone with respect and equally.
