Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 and died in February 22, 1987. He was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as ‘Pop Art’. Warhol used many mediums such as: paint, drawing, sculpture, audio, time capsules, television, fashion, performance art, theatre, photography and computer. Andy Warhol started his career as a commercial illustrator however most of his work is with paint and some of his most famous artworks are those like the Campbell’s Tomato Soup Can which is a painting. Warhol uses imagery of brands used by people everyday which is what makes his artwork so intriguing as the objects are things people recognise. These brands are things like Coca Cola and Campbell’s tinned soup. Tinned foods were very popular in the 60’s as it was just after the Second World War and they were widely available as they were easy to stock during the war so they had a lot of it which is why the Campbell painting is one of Warhol’s most famous pieces. The style of the pieces are usually realistic but with minimal detail just enough to be able to tell the shapes for example for the Campbell Soup tin, the dimention to the can is given with the round circles going around the top with add the dimention to it. Because Andy Warhol was a major part of the Pop Art movement, his art is made up of a lot of vibrant and primary colours. This gives a very comic-like feel to his artwork.
