REVIEW
The Usage of The Language
2. The Usage Of Language
2.1 The Usage of Formal Language
The language that used in SMS is very various. It is depends on the receiver. A good and correct language must be considered in typing a SMS. The language that is used should be understood by the receiver. In other words, a good language is effective to convey the purpose. The effectiveness in communication is determined by the harmony of language to the situation (time, place and people who talk to). Not all of the good language is really correct for instance if we send an SMS to the parents by using daily language which we usually used to our friends. So it is clear why we need to know the situation to send an SMS. To send an SMS by using a formal language, we have to consider the situation for instance:
a. The receiver
Knowing the receiver is important for example, when sending an SMS to older people, the use of formal language is the right choice. Receivers could have parents, siblings, relatives, colleagues who have influence and the others. The language should a standardized language and appropriate greeting words. If the sender does not notice who the receiver, misunderstandings can occur. When we send a message to older people, by using too many acronyms and slang language, most likely the intent of the message can not be understood. Formal language is should be used to reduce a lot of misunderstanding to receiver. Formal language should be short and clear so it does not make the number of SMS into two pages, which means we have to pay for two SMS.
b. Time and place
One thing that must be considered beside the receiver is a time and place or condition when we will send a message. Formal language is a good choice because it will be more effective to use in correct place and time. For example, during Idul Fitri holidays, we usually apologize to a friend with less standard language so it looks like a joke. To avoid misunderstanding, we should use formal language. From this we must understand that sending SMS does not just know who the receiver but also the time or the moment is in progress.
A place for send an SMS does not affect the effectiveness in delivery what we mean, but knowing where the receiver is very important not to type strange things in the message. The following examples are things that are common among adolescents. When the receiver want to read the inbox, there is a possibility there is someone else nearby. The receiver does not know how important the message may be secret or indifferent. This can be avoided by knowing the place and conditions of receiving SMS.
2.2 Combination of language
The language in SMS is very diverse. One of them is combining foreign language with Indonesian language. The teenagers tend to combine foreign language with Indonesian as it is considered more creative than just one language only. Combination of language usually used to send humor messages to other friends. This is certainly makes people often confused with the meaning of the message. SMS language is often used by teenagers as an humorous, romantic messages to lovers and people who loved, and generally used by teenagers who usually uses a foreign language in their daily activities.
2.3 Slang language
Slang should be distinguished from dialect, speech peculiar to a region (H. L. Mencken, The American Language). General slangy pronounced is the same with English such as please ' pliz'. Another example is combination of English and foreign language such as “so what gt loch” which mean who cares'
Local languages also includes of slang because its use is limited to the cities and in certain ethnic, for example, in Padang contain slang words from Minang language, in Jakarta the dialect
is influenced by English and Batavia (the Dutch colonial period) changing in the form of linguistic messages without altering the contents for the purpose of concealment or antics, so the slang is the transformation of part of a language according to certain patterns.
Slang is often used in typing an SMS. Slang like a formal language is often used by teens. Slang commonly used can be seen in the appendix. Slang is very interesting for use in SMS. Some of the reasons that make commonly used teenage slang in the SMS:
1. Slang is accepted easily.
2. Making languge become simple such “Saya” become ”Gue, “By the way”, become “Btw”
3. Slang used for making others people do not understand about what are discussed.
4. Slang makes them trendy and update.
2.4 Abbreviation
Abbreviation is cutting down the formal word by eliminating some of letters. When the recipient receives the message of this cutting, generally the recipient will understand the purpose of the information. This caused by one’s experience in reading the text so that meaning is contained in the message at this time; especially among teenagers already have a rule that is different from the rules of proper writing. Every language has rules and functions as a means of communication in social relationships users. The variety of SMS language also equivalent with local languages in Indonesia. SMS have a common language with local language characters that have rules and certain communities understand and use grammar in communicating. However, the SMS language is new language that will continue to grow as technological developments. SMS language is also formed on the basis of tradition is not hereditary, but by the will of each different user.

PART IV
FINDING AND DISCUSSION
A. Data description
SMS is the most effective way in communication
Suggestion
Use SMS language should be adjusted to the rules of good and true. Indonesian has rules that are summarized in EYD (Spelling enhanced), English with proper grammar so that the user will not be found ambiguity and all the things that can complicate the reader in interpreting the information.
SMS language users should also be understood and to understand the Indonesian language properly and correctly. Users who only master the language of SMS alone can lead to difficulties adapting to new people he knew and diverse characters. By understanding rule then SMS users can customize the appropriate language to the reader that communication is efficient.
Language SMS as a variety of language should get control of government for all people to understand the nature of SMS language and instill a sense of responsibility to them to keep learning the rules of the Indonesian language. Through a well-packed espionage, then this can work well even the people themselves who will participate to help this government program.
Language SMS also can be anticipated by developments in technology. Through the development of technology, the SMS again did not experience the limitations of the character, thereby reducing the desire for people to abbreviate. Through the development of technology can also save on labor costs resulting system operator tariff reduction on SMS. In addition, technological developments may cause the transition to an SMS communication devices are less expensive communication devices and issue a credit in the amount of efficiency. For example, at present there is a more efficient communication tool that is a video call, but because of the expensive equipment and limited area then this type of communication network is not as popular as SMS. In essence, the identity of the language must be kept and preserved because Indonesian is an asset and the personality of the nation. In summary then, text messaging is quick because the teenagers know the interface and the terseness of the medium speeds up the exchange and focuses it (Grinter & Eldridge, 2001: 13).
