....Analyse comment and review the Kiduthood poster Last year the hit movie, Kidulthood, dazed the big screens changing the definition of a ‘good movie’. The brutality, sadism and violence portrayed in the movies seemed like it had been shredded right out of the cover page of the daily mail: associated with teens. The film goes way past the slang and the clothing to explore and expose the meaning of being a teen. A five star movie which led people believe it desired an ASBO more than an Oscar: Kidulthood. The movie desperately tries to illustrate how the children of today’s society behave using all kinds of advertising, including posters. However some teens believe that the way they advertise is very bias as they only base their opinions on the stereotypes of teens which supports the medias’ prejudice outlook on us teens. The facial expressions on these teens are very analogous to the stereotypes the media believe us teens are. Just by glancing at this poster you can tell that the facial expressions and body language of the characters notify that if you are unfamiliar you’re not welcome. Not even one of these teens has a hospitable face on: as all, but one, have either impolite or vulgar facial expressions. Although the majority of them are in couples, there is a barrier, as there are no emotional connections between them. Therefore is very eccentric as most couples are known to have some sort of, blissful, emotional connection. This is mildly similar most teens as you seem to always have miserable faces on whether you’re on the bus or just going home which supports the medias’ ideas about us teens. The props used in this placard intimate that the movie is certainly violent; aggressiveness towards other characters will be shown during the course of this film. The main focal point of this poster is ‘Sam’ (the boy with the base ball bat). The approach of the bat and the way it is held shows that it is unquestionably a defence mechanism which symbolizes the way some teenagers carry weapons because of the level of insecurity or for the safely of their friends, more likely themselves. Evidently, teens don’t carry such obvious weaponry yet the bat still represents the weaponry that you young people of today do use so casually. What the media don’t know that it’s only the minority of teens that carry weapons furthermore the reasons for the usage of weaponry' Another example is the style of clothing: the hoodies and jackets that are being worn. As you can see almost all of the characters have hoodies on. Hodies are worn in this poster to hide their identities. This is exceedingly similar to the way you young people of today dress which many people assume, including the media, is to hide at the scene of a crime or some sort. In the poster pathetic fallacy is used in a very subliminal way to convey the emotions and mood of the teens. A dark, sinister, eerie atmosphere is behind the teenagers which characterizes their feelings and diverse emotions. This could mean that they might be feeling depressed, angry, or any mood that ranks under this sector of emotions. Contrastingly, you teens are extremely similar as you also bottle up all your feelings until you reach a breaking point and detonate using a form of aggression which could lead to a few damages. My point of view differs from the medias’ as they seem to think that as soon as you reach a breaking point you overreact and do something drastic. The quotes from the magazine ‘Powerful, moving and unforgettable - kicks the door of its hinges’ uses personification to describe the movie which links to the way the characters act. The magazine (also media) used theses choice of words to show their point of view as to what they think of the movie, more significantly the characters. The words ‘kicks the door of its hinges’ tells us that they feel that the teenagers in the film approach things more violently and aggressively i.e. instead of walking through the door - they kick it instead. This links back to the makers (also media) of the film and the elements they added in to make other types of media perceive the film in that way. The font used is very questionable. The makers of Kidulthood used capitalised letters apart from the ‘i’ which many people think signifies the fact that they are still kids who acts as if they are adults. If the makers of Kidulthood intended to do so then it would definitely link to teenagers as most teens do think they are adults as they make their own decisions that parents are legally supposed to make. Overall, I believe the analyse by the media on teen issues are remarkably bias as they use insufficient evidence, which may not true, to judge the majority of teens. However, I also think that the behaviour of some teens have led the media to think that way and exaggerate the teen issues these days. The exaggeration of media might have also been a wake up call to many teens out there and how exactly others reflect on their current behaviours.
