Alcohol Beverages
Majority of us do use alcohol to some extent and if there are any benefits from consuming alcohol, we must be remiss for making them known. (Brown, Edwin W, Pros and Cons of Alcohol, (3/1999) Being a person who enjoys the taste of a cold beer daily, I am all for showing the bright side of alcohol. When people think of alcohol beverages, bad imaging comes in their mind. These images were betrayed upon when seeing the example of another or his or herself abusing the use of alcohol. Studies show that alcohol can reduce the risk of heart attacks when drunken properly, it also show if individual want to drink and stay healthy then 24oz of beer daily is reasonable. All individuals are not beer drinker as I, so a five ounce glass of wine or 1.5 oz of 80 proof liquor is a reasonable amount of alcohol consumption daily.(American Heart Association) A person of my status would drink all of that in two minutes. It makes a person wonder,” Who does the Heart Association do their experiments on.” Drinking alcohol beverages in the right amount also helps prevent strokes. (National Stroke Association)
In researching this controversial subject which my team luckily stumbled upon, I found out that the oldest human being on this planet, drinks strong vodka daily. Her name is Yevdokia Vyshimirskaya she is 114 years of age. Yevdovia is almost a year older than Netherland’s Hendrikje van Andel of The Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest man on the planet. She says that she drink strong vodka every day. Her secret to her lengthy life is eating hardy meals.” I eat cow, chicken, horses and children” she said laughing. That is also what the French do also. The method is called The French Paradox. The French Paradox is all about drinking hearty and eating hearty. Eating fatty foods help absorb the alcohol. The French are known to consume even more alcohol than the people in the U.S., but has the world second lowest heart disease rate behind Japan. This fact seems like it should be the other way around considering that both Japan and France have one of the lowest averages in weight problems. I was astonished at these statistics, so I decided to do a little experiment of my own. For a whole week I consume strong liquor. I did not drink any beer, knowing that beer is full with yeast. Each day after drinking the strong liquor, I ate a hearty meal. In doing so I lost four pounds. I love this French Paradox thing.
When wanting to stay on the healthy sides of alcoholic beverages forget about the beers and shots. Drink Beverages that contain healthy ingredients. The King of healthiest drinks is told to be the Sangria; its Ingredients include lots of vitamins, low fats, low carbohydrates and plenty of minerals. This drink contains orange juice and fruits and even better it only contains 150 calories. Another healthy beverage would include any red wines. Applying this type of wine to your diet not only lowers your cholesterol, but it even fights cancer and prompts a healthy heart. When a person wants to diet, but wants to continue drinking alcohol beverages, the first thing to keep in mind at all times is your eight glasses of water per day. This will keep the body hydrated and keep it healthy mentally and physically. Know that consumption of alcohol should be in moderation. Choosing a clear alcohol over a dark is always a better choice because clears only contain 100 calories and little carbohydrates. Mixing a clear with perhaps, a club soda or a vegetable juice is an acceptable method and is very healthy. With this in mind drinking healthy and dieting can coexist.
New research shows that consuming alcohol in moderation can have certain health benefits and reduce certain health risks. Rheumatoid Arthritis is one of the health problems that can be reduced or eliminated by consumption of alcohol in moderation. Arthritis is a disease that affects the joints in the human body. The joint inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis causes swelling, pain, stiffness, and redness in the joints. The inflammation of rheumatoid disease can also occur in tissues around the joints, such as the tendons, ligaments, and muscles. This disease can affect anybody at any age but is more likely to affect women starting at age 40 but before age 60. Studies show that alcohol reduces the risk of this type of disease, and among those who drank regularly, the quarter with the highest consumption were up to 50% less likely to develop the disease compared with the half who drank the least.
Another type of disease that can be reduced by alcohol consumption is Alzheimer’s disease. These risks are limited by moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages such as one or two glasses of wine each day. For example of one study of about 5000 people completed over a span of six years shows how. In the beginning of the study not any of the subjects showed signs of the disease. However at the end of the study approximately 197 of the volunteers developed Alzheimer’s or some other form of Dementia. Now keep in mind that, that is out of 5000 test subjects. Those who drank between 1 to 3 drinks per day had a 42% lower risk of developing dementia than the nondrinkers. Those who did not drink daily but had more than one drink per week had a 25% lower risk of developing dementia than the nondrinkers. One final point, it did not seem to matter what people drank, (beer, wine or liquor), the effect was the same.
So there you have it, it’s not as bad as people make it seem. I do however see where people come from when they have there say on alcoholic beverages. Drinking causes many deaths yearly due to the irresponsible use of it. If only people will know the limit and pratice it correctly we could change this country for the best by lowering heart disease and most importantly enable us to live long on the earth.
