AIDS AIDS which stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is a medical condition where the human’s immune system is too weak to fight off infections. It is caused by an HIV that gradually attacks the immune system cells. As HIV damages the body more and more, the body will become more vulnerable to infections which will make it very difficult to fight off. In the beginning stages of this HIV infection a few minor symptoms may occur. People with AIDS might experience a flu-like sickness such as: fever, headaches, tiredness, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and groin area. After more years of being infected with AIDS the symptoms begin to change and increase. Rapid weight loss, recurring fever or profuse night sweats, extreme tiredness, swelling of the lymph glands in the armpits, groin or neck, diarrhea that lasts for more than a week, sores of the mouth, anus, or genitals, pneumonia, and memory loss or depression are more of the symptoms that can be experienced throughout the years of AIDS. Since 1981 the first cases of AIDS were identified and since then about 25,000,000 people have died from this disorder. Most of the people that get infected from HIV and AIDS are the adults. There are also kids and teens that have HIV too. As of today AIDS remains epidemic which means that a large number of people are infected and it continues to spread rapidly. HIV or AIDS can spread by having sexual contact with a person who has HIV or by sharing needles or syringes with a person who has HIV. It can also be transferred by a pregnant woman with HIV that can pass the disease to her unborn child. The risk of getting HIV is less than 1 in a million. AIDS is a very common disease that has NO cure what so ever. Although this disorder has no cure, the HIV infection can be prevented. Those living with HIV can take antiretroviral drugs that can help delay the AIDS. Having no cure for AIDS doesn’t mean that the disease has no treatment. Current medications are effective in fighting HIV and its complications. The medications are designed to reduce HIV in your body, keep your immune system healthy and in a good condition, and to decrease the complications that you might develop. A person can be infected with HIV without even knowing about it. People that are infected with HIV need to have more blood tests every so often. Somebody with this disease can go to work, school, and do what they usually do every day. All they have to do is make sure that they take their certain medicines every day, and they might get sick very often because their immune system will be a lot weaker. Once the HIV infection turn into AIDS, it changes the person’s life like big time. They will never be the same as before and they will have to spend a lot more time in the hospital because of the illness. Since there is currently still no cure for AIDS, it is best that you do not put yourself at risk and watch out with the stuff that your do. Maybe one day, with experiments, research, and time, the cure for this infection might be found and AIDS will no longer exist.
