Determining the Perfect Position Kyñette Cheatham LDR/531 January 25, 2010 Thomas McMahon In order to be an effective leader it is important to match the leader with the situation/staff that the individual will lead. There are two basic types of leaders, task-oriented and people-oriented leaders. Task-oriented leaders are described as those more inclined to concern themselves and the progression of the group by staying focused on responsibilities and deadlines. A people-oriented leader is one that prefers to build relationships with staff and also prefers to accentuate on the growth of individuals within the staff. The purpose of this paper is to examine the type of leader Kyñette Cheatham is with her staff. We will compare the two leadership styles to the assessments that she recently took. Kyñette took several assessments to help her determine what type of leader she is, how charismatic she is, how trustworthy she is also how much people are willing to trust her. Last, we will discuss what type of position Kyñette will be most effective in with regards to her leadership style. As before mentioned, the theory that effective groups depend on a proper match between a leader’s style of interacting with subordinates and the degree to which the situation gives control and influence to the leader; this theory is referred to as the Fiedler contingency model (Robbins and Judge, 2007, p. 409). In order to determine the leader type the text suggests taking a series of assessments. After taking these assessments Kyñette is able to determine how she will be better fit in an organizational setting. The next few paragraphs will emphasize on the assessments and what the results determined. Fir References Robbins, S. P., & Judge, T. A. (2007). Organizational Behavior, Twelfth Edition.
