ACTIONS TO TAKE IF AN INDIVIDUAL TELLS YOU THEY ARE BEING ABUSED Do Stay calm and listen to them, Take what you are being told seriously, Be aware that medical evidence might be needed, Offer them support to help them to stop the abuse happening, make a written note of what you have been told and contact social services or the police. The vulnerable person’s wishes are crucial in determining what action to take All people have a right to make choices, insofar as they are able, and maintain their independence even when this involves a degree of risk. Where the individual chooses to accept this risk, their wishes should be respected within their capacity to anticipate and understand the level of risk and the possible consequences.
