We raised the questions; is abortion considered to be murder' Can the fetus feel any pain' Why do women decide to abort their baby’s' Many women believe that that’s the only way out because they don’t have a sense of direction to turn to, maybe evening interfering with their career. In my lesson I will discuss the possibilities and procedures of abortions and why it is wrong. I would also want to discuss ways of preventing these types of actions and what can be done if you are scared. I’m going to share a little story about my experience dealing with an abortion and how the outcome was. Abortion is not just a simple medical procedure. For many women, it is a life changing event with significant physical, emotional, and spiritual consequences. Most women who struggle with past abortions say that they wish they had been told all of the facts about abortion and its risks. The unfortunate bit is, abortion is executed by doctors who are supposed to be life savers, but because of gluttony, the need for quick money, abuse of professional ethics and ignorance of our culture some of them are promoting the practice. When some women get unwanted pregnancies they seek the help of gynecologists to get rid of it. Please women, do not kill babies, give them a chance to live and grow. Experts usually ask for huge fees to carry out those nasty operations, but they should realize that this money is dirty because it has ended life. Young women come up with all sorts of reasons to carry out an abortion. Some say they were raped and cannot produce a rapists’ child. I feel for such women, but Abortions 3 if you abort after being raped, you will get more stressed. You cannot be blamed for being raped even God understands, but if you end life, God will never forgives you. However, women who get in sexual relationships willingly should also take responsibility for unwanted pregnancies. So is aborting your fetus wrong' The Bible says for people to protect the weak and down-trodden. But with abortionists, the rights of the baby are sacrificed for the rights of the mother -- and the father doesn't even have any rights. The mother cries out that the life in her is part of her body and that she has the right to do with her body as she wills. True love does not seek its own, but is other-centered. It gives. "For God so loved the world he GAVE his only begotten son..." (John 3:16). Abortion is the ultimate in selfishness. It puts the mother's convenience and desires above the life of her own baby. To kill the baby in the womb means to consider oneself more important than anyone else. Even in nature, as far as I understand animals don't kill what is in their own wombs. People are the only ones who kill their young while still unborn. In this society of "self esteem," "personal accomplishments," and "empowerment," true love is losing out and death is winning.” (M.J. Slick, 1995) Abortion is one of the most contentious issues in society - there seems little hope in getting the pro-choice and pro-life sides to agree on anything at all. Some people are certain that abortion is necessary for women's freedom while others are equally certain that it is a form of murder. Many people wonder; aborting your unborn baby consider being murder' I believe so. Even though your baby is not outside the womb, he/she is still a human being. Their hearts are beating; they can open their eyes, suck their thumbs, and even kick you a few times. Abortions 4 “The Stoics' belief that abortion should be allowed up to the moment of birth was vigorously opposed by the Pythagoreans who believed that the soul was infused into the body at conception and that to abort a fetus would be to commit murder. Early Roman law was silent as to abortion; and abortion and infanticide was common in Rome, especially among the upper classes.”(E. Rubin, 1994). Many women may wonder if they baby can feel any pain before their procedure is done. Well… the answer is yes. Many experts believe that fetal pain is detected at a later stage. “Most abortions occur during the first trimester of pregnancy. However, a significant number of abortions occur much later in pregnancy. Pro-life advocates have claimed that at least some of these fetuses are capable of feeling pain during the abortion procedure. Although the fetus develops rapidly (e.g., the heart begins to beat within three weeks of conception), brain development continues throughout pregnancy and after birth. Although some forms of brain waves occur by six weeks, cortical brain waves don't occur until later. However, late term abortions, including D&X (partial birth) abortion, can occur after 20 weeks gestation”. (A. Slater, S. Cantarella, A. Gallella, etc., 2006) “Many pro-life groups emphasize that embryos start to develop pain sensors a few weeks after conception. Many readers of their literature then assume that embryos can feel pain from this point in pregnancy onwards. However all available evidence shows that even though these sensors develop early in pregnancy, human embryos cannot actually sense pain. Certain major components of the central nervous system that are necessary to feel pain are not present and functioning.” (B.A. Robinson, 2006) Abortions 5 There are many reasons why women choose to have an abortion. The followings are: Feels unready for child/responsibility Feels she can't afford baby Has all the children she wants/other family responsibilities Relationship problem/Single motherhood Feels she isn't mature enough Interference with education/career plans 4% Parents/Partner wants abortion Other reasons “Most respondents to a survey of abortion patients in 1987 said that more than one factor had contributed to their decision to have an abortion; the mean number of reasons was nearly four. Three-quarters said that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities, about two-thirds said they could not afford to have a child and half said they did not want to be a single parent nor had relationship problems. A multivariate analysis showed young teenagers to be 32 percent more likely than women 18 or over to say they were not mature enough to raise a child and 19 percent more likely to say their parents wanted them to have an abortion. Unmarried women were 17 percent more likely than currently married women to choose abortion to prevent others from knowing they had had sex or became pregnant. Of women who had an abortion at 16 or more weeks' gestation, 71 percent attributed their delay to not having realized they were pregnant or not having known soon enough the actual gestation of their pregnancy. Almost half were delayed because of trouble in arranging the abortion, usually Abortions 6 because they needed time to raise money. One-third did not have an abortion earlier because they were afraid to tell their partner or parents that they were pregnant. A multivariate analysis revealed that respondents under age 18 were 39 percent more likely than older women to have delayed because they were afraid to tell their parents or partner.” (A. Torres, JD. Forrest, 1988) I have experience abortion when I was just 21. I was force to have an abortion by my significant other and until this day, it taunts me. I lived day by day regretting what I did to my child. He would have been 6 years old; those are the words I keep telling myself. I believe that if someone was to encourage me not to have this procedure down and how the outcome would have been, I would have never down such a thing. Coming to a conclusion, just imagine, if our mothers aborted us, would we be alive today' No wonder many young women are looking for babies but cannot get them. Men are also partly to blame for causing unbearable stress to women. After making them pregnant, they refuse to take responsibility and at times mistreat the woman. This is not fair. My plea to women is: do not abort even if your man denies the pregnancy, take heart, go for counseling and seek help from friends and understanding relatives, but do not kill the baby. Children are a gift from God and no one should deny them life. Whenever I get home and play with my children, I thank God for having given them to me. Abortions 7 Reference A.
