Abortion

I don’t think any policy will change the high statistics of teen pregnancy in the United States, I think if is more of an internal struggle within the family. It’s not necessarily parents sitting down with their kids a few times having the “sex talk”, it is parents constantly being there for their kids. It’s them encouraging their children to make good choices and think about their future rather then telling them what not to do. I, being seventeen have never actually been given the “sex talk” from my parents but instead, am constantly encouraged to get good grades, and work hard at whatever I do in life. My dad always tells me its always easy to do the wrong thing, the challenges are making the right choices. I am fully pro-life. I do not believe abortion is the right thing to do under any circumstance. Just last month a woman came in my school to speak in one of our chapels. She told the story of how she was adopted into a Jewish family and had a lot of struggles, her father abused her, she never fit in because she wasn’t Jewish like the rest of her family and in college her boyfriend beat her up so bad that she broke her nose, her jaw and her two front teeth came out. She continued to tell us that not only was she adopted but she was conceived through rape. And a horrific rape at that, and on top of that she found out through talking to her biological mother that if abortion weren’t illegal at the time she would have aborted her. This devastated her. After years of getting to know her mother, that changed. One day, while she was talking to her mother on the phone her mother told her that she had changed her mind, if she could have done it all over again, she would, because her daughter, conceived through rape, was the greatest blessing in her life. I believe that every child conceived should be born because every human being can be a blessing, and every human being should have the chance at life. The speaker went on to say that she is married, happy and has a wonderful relationship with her biological mother. I don’t think its fair to determine whether an unborn child is wanted in this world or not because you never know what that child could be or how that child could make a difference in the world. It doesn’t matter where you came from it matters how you come out of it.
