Abortion

Two Views on a Controversial Issue In the society we live in, we all view things differently. One’s opinion is not everyone else’s. For years, abortions have been a major controversial issue. We argue whether they should be illegal or if the woman should have control over their fertility. We argue whether abortions should be covered under the health care reform or if the women should pay for it out of their own pocket “Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, resulting in or caused by its death.” Out of all the core issues in America, abortion seems closer to the top of the list than ever before. Nearly half of pregnancies among Americans are unintentional, and four in ten of these are terminated. Two percent of all pregnancies end in abortion. Forty-seven percent of women, who have had one abortion, have had at least one previous abortion. Although many people may see these statistics as alarming or appalling; there is an innumerable amount of people who differ. People have argued Pro-Life and Pro-Choice for years. Pro-Life means supporting the exclusion of abortion. Pro-Choice meaning women should have control over their own fertility. Numerous citizens believe that if you are old enough to have sex, you are old enough to raise a child. Some people think women use abortions as an escape route from their juvenile behavior and their careless decisions. Those are just two of many opinions regarding this topic. From 1973 through 2005; more than forty-five million legal abortions occurred. People who are Pro-Choice believe women should have control over their own fertility. People who are Pro-Choice tend to believe that the government cannot be trusted to decide who should have an abortion, and under what circumstances. Some believe that abusive men will often try to get their partners pregnant to keep them from ending the violent relationship. Others dispute that if abortions are not safe and legal, many women will attempt to terminate pregnancies themselves, just like they did before safe abortions were legal, or else will be preyed upon by untrained opportunists who will take their money and hurt or kill them attempting to perform the procedure. Some Pro-choice believers believe that abortions should be banned, except when a woman has been raped or the woman’s life is in endangered by continuing the pregnancy. The opposite view of Pro-Choice is Pro-Life, meaning you support the banning of abortions. People who are Pro-Life believe that the unborn child is human and that life begins at conception. Some believe that abortion is not safe at all and starts a war on the unborn. In the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court made a decision to legalize abortions which made every Pro-Life individual enraged. These are two entirely diverse views. No one is to say what is right and what is wrong, we do not know what is right, we just think we do. Another strong issue dealing with abortion is whether or not it should be under the health care reform. Pro-life people do not want to shell out money for taxes on a woman’s mistake. That is a proclamation that is stated in every abortion squabble in the U.S. To a quantity of people, banning abortion is logically the right thing to do. To them, it would save them money on taxes. Not only would it save taxpayer’s money, but to them it is morally the right thing to do. One single abortion can range anywhere from five-hundred to one-thousand dollars. That is just one abortion. If you take that number and times it by the forty-five million people who have had an abortion in the past thirty years, it would have cost forty-five billion dollars from out taxpayers money to have those operations. Pro-Choice people’s view on health care reform is that private plans can choose whether or not to cover abortion fees. NARAL Pro-Choice America says, “Of congress enacts subsidies that exclude abortion, women could lose coverage for abortion care, even if their private health-insurance plan already covers it.” The organization urges the law makers to vote against any plan that takes coverage from abortion away from women who already have it in their private insurance plans. This analysis shows the comparisons of Pro-Life and Pro- Choice and whether the Health Care Reform should cover abortions. It shows the dissimilar views on these topics and how our society will never agree on one sole view. Unfortunately these arguments between these topics will be argued twenty years from now. We cannot change nor prevent society’s views, we all agree to disagree.
