Discursive Essay – Abortion. Worldwide there is approximately 42million abortions per year, that’s approximately 115, 000 abortions per day. Half of the women obtaining abortions are younger than 25 years old. Also, around 60% of abortions are performed on un-married women. Many women have abortions because of incest, rape, unwanted pregnancy or wealth. There are a lot of cons for abortion and just one of them is murder demeans the value of a human life. When a pregnant women feels a kick in her belly, she doesn't say "Oh, the foetus kicked" she says "The baby kicked." After conception you have a real human being waiting to enter the world. Why should taking someone's life when they're in the womb be any different than taking their life when they're a baby in the crib' Even if you don't believe abortion is murder, it still demeans the value of human life, since women can so callously stomp out a living being simply because they're inconvenienced. There are many couples who spend years on waiting lists trying to adopt a child. The number of couples out there who cannot have a child of their own for physical reasons are too numerous to count. The waiting list for adopting babies can be 5-10 years or more. Young women in their teens are right to be concerned that they're not ready to effectively raise a child. However, if that is the case, there are plenty of wonderful people out there who are. Not only would you be bringing a valuable life into the world, you'd also be making the dream of a childless couple come true. Abortion eliminates legal rights of the unborn child. People have stated that we are all entitled to life and the pursuit of happiness. With abortion being legal we take those rights away from a person who could grow up to be bright and make something of themselves. Just because the babies can't speak for themselves doesn't mean they have no rights. If a person shoots and kills a pregnant woman, he get s put in jail for a long time, abortion isn’t very different. The abortion decision is often made by minors who don't have the maturity and life experiences to make good decisions. There's a good reason why people of a certain age are not allowed to drink alcohol, smoke, or drive. It's because they haven't matured enough to make good decisions. Everybody makes bad decisions in their younger years that provide them with life experience to make sounder judgment in the future. The one skill that seems to take the longest time to develop is the ability to consider the feelings and needs of someone besides ourselves. A life or death decision such as abortion shouldn’t be made by a person who probably hasn't developed enough to decide what to wear. There are plenty of pros to abortion and one is medical conditions may develop after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy that could threaten the mother's life and/or health. These medical conditions can include heart failure, severe or uncontrollable diabetes, serious renal disease, high blood pressure and severe depression. Medical conditions of the foetus may develop after the 12 weeks of pregnancy, such as severe deformities and genetic disorders, which may cause the woman to seek an abortion, as she may think that she can’t cope with it. It's possibly better for society to have babies aborted than have them be brought up poor and neglected, where not only will the child suffer but society when that child develops a higher attraction to crime, etc. Without abortion, a lot more women will become parents whether or not they want to be and whether or not they're ready to be. Raising a child properly is a full-time job. The children who are neglected or abused are usually the ones that grow up to be drug addicts and criminals. Some people say, "What if Gordon Brown’s mum had an abortion'" and "What if Adolf Hitler's or Saddam Hussein's mum had an abortion'" One brief mistake can take away a woman's childhood and trap her for life. The pressure to have sex at an early age is fierce in today's society. Even a girl who lives a good, responsible life can have one slip up. But that one slip-up can take away all her life plans and trap her. She may have planned to go to medical school, train for the Olympics, travel the world, or just have fun while she's still young. All this can be thrown down the drain with one brief mistake. We shouldn't look down on someone for wanting to live their life. Women may have an abortion because of rape or incest. 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest and women have these abortions because they cannot deal with the feeling or stress they get whenever they look at the child. They could get post natal depression and take this out on the child. Although, they could just put the child up for adoption. This could also cause the woman depression as giving away your child would be depressing even if the child was unwanted. I don’t agree with abortion as believe that it is murder and it is taking away a persons rights to grow up and become who they want. However, I agree a little bit with abortion as it may be stressful for a woman if she was raped or through incest.
