Abortion: Is it Murder'
Do we have the right to end a human life' In the United States, abortion is legal for any woman wishing to terminate her pregnancy. In the UK, over 170 thousand abortions are performed every year. We ask ourselves, Is this morally right' The life of every human, in God’s eyes, is precious. The Bible states that murder is the intentional killing of innocent human life. The sixth commandment states “Thou shall not murder”. Yet, many women ignore the scriptures and continue to make decisions to end their baby’s life.
The unborn embryo has a heartbeat 4 weeks after conception. By week five, the embryo is developing the brain, spinal cord, and organs. Most abortions are performed in the first trimester. The most common abortion is performed in the clinic. The physician uses a hand held suction device and inserts it into the mother’s cervix to reach the uterus. The fetus (unborn child) is then removed and discarded (thrown away).
Women who decide to have abortions are not considered to be murderers by law, and do not receive any type of punishment. Yet, this is an intentional killing. If a man strikes another with an object and kills him, he is a murderer, and will be punished by law, and may even be sentenced to death. What is the difference between them' Having an abortion is carefully thought out, and planned by the mother and physician. Is this a pre-meditated murder'
Numerous scriptures point to the personhood of the unborn child. “Brephos” describes the unborn, the newborn, and the infant. The scriptures make no differentiation between the unborn child and the newborn child, so why should we. God’s holiness is opposed to evil, and all that cheapens, distorts and destroys his creatures. Every human life is created in the image of God. Not to murder is for the protection of innocent human life.
Pro-choice refers to the freedom that an individual has to decide one's course of life with respect and support from others. It is the responsibility that one has towards one's own life and the right to decide which course one's life should take. Some believe that abortion is not murder. Many abortion physicians believe that a fertilized egg does not have a mature nervous system that controls the conscious. (Consciousness is thoughts, feelings, memories, etc.) Therefore, it is not murder. Many women are grateful that they have a choice. Some women have chosen abortion because of an act of rape. Other women have chosen abortion due to their unborn child having severe illnesses causing brain damage. Every woman has a choice and a reason for wanting to terminate their pregnancies.
The reality of abortion is the termination of life. To purposely destroy an unborn child in the womb is murder. Pro-choice activists present abortion as a choice, not murder. What about the choices of the unborn child' Are the physicians and mothers playing God' Would pro-choice activists continue to argue their beliefs, if they saw the pictures of unborn babies torn into pieces' Abortions are demoralized and women are not being warned of the moral consequences. Women are being persuaded to do what they think is right rather than turning to the scriptures. Adoption is a wonderful asset to any mother who does not want their unborn child. Many couples who cannot have children are desperate to be parents, yet women continue to choose abortions. No one has the right to kill another human being. I believe that adoption should be the alternative to abortion, and that abortions should be illegal.
