A rose for Emily
Through death and dissolution may create bizarre circumstances leading to the mental release of solidarity. Although Emily in “A Rose for Emily” and Mrs. Mallard in “The Story of an Hour” are oppressed by society, only Mrs. Mallard finds a sense of freedom and liberation in the death of her love one. Emily’s restrictions of intimate connections have stripped her sense of self confidence, worth and future hope. Her father’s authority enclosed her like a tea lid before the steam lets itself out to be noticed. We arrive at the scene, the death of her father. To understand her pain and loss of the man who was the protector and foundation of the Griersons forced a collapse in her chemical imbalance of social analytical behaviors. The captivity and seclusion strings components of bad hygiene, health and social unawareness of life. She cannot foresee a future with happiness or even a man to understand the meaning of her despondence. She is left with one man. Tobe is the hammer pounding the nail in Emily’s survival in nutritional stability, although she is disconcerted with. This enhanced conflict with her pro social aptitude in society. There was a change in Emily, a chance that she could redeem herself and take her place in a changing world with new generations and an abundance of higher social class aware of her statue through decades since the death of her father.
Strong, confident, a man who patrols the streets with a whip as if a Spartan would hold his sword before battle. Emily has found the necessary approval in him. The sense of companionship that was stripped in her earlier years, although it did not completely entombed her thoughts. Homer baron is what she has been waiting for to free Emily from a community that has judge every element of her life. The connection made between the two only inherited Homer to raise his social status leaving Emily second place to his same sex counterparts. She could not have been wrong in her decision releasing that chemical imbalance forcing dark thoughts of an unfamiliar situation. A dark bluish gray substance will silence Homer. This will inevitably keep him with her to love and cherish while being the authority presence she needs. The seclusion is returns, although much labor arises this time around. With the labor complete a capsule is formed without the community having no knowledge of its existence. Emily is now free of worry of companionship while she slept and awakened for forty years in her capsulated world. In her death this world would bring much question to why the skeleton was hidden even more horrific to her strand of hair left behind. Emily did not need the approval of society, yet controlled her social interactions within it.
The unconditional and endearing lives of women in early centuries caused the need for men to become leaders for all decisive planning and actions for the family. Women were left to care for the children, but yet understood and knew what the family needed without being the primary contacts to resolve the problem. Strong in spirit she was haunted with a chronic illness of heart trouble. Mrs. Mallard was the homemaker who knew while looking through a window in the shell of mediocre love will compel freedom. The newspaper told the story of her husband leading the list of candidates for eternal rest. Her immediate breakdown into to the arms of her closes relative created a storm of enormous grief. This was the release, perhaps the start of what she was waiting for. Staring through her window she saw the closing of responsibility and the promotion of independence. Becoming free is what she always wanted but still kept the social expected normality of her marriage together. She did love her husband at times but never felt the connectivity to only think about his happiness and not hers. She was free. As the doctor sits carefully examining Mrs. Mallard a sudden but known surprise presents itself. She cannot believe it, although knowing her freedom which was so close expired quietly into the heavens.
The reverse in wanting each other lives shows the contrasting need for love and freedom. Emily’s need for companionship overcame her sense of reality while not meeting the expectations of normality. Mrs. Mallard did not need the companionship, but wanted what Emily was cursed with during the forsaken years of her life. To be free was only a thought to Mrs. Mallard only coming so close to not depending on her husband to make decisions only her. Views of what society expected was not concerning to Emily or Mrs. Mallard. The comparison between them was not to expect societal views but to depend on their own intuitions and beliefs while maintaining their lives.
In conclusion societal oppressed individuals do not live within the boundaries expected by their peers. Extreme measures of captivity causes a decay in rational thinking, although can release a form of dependency. Mrs. Mallard and Emily contrast in worlds that expected them to portray their lives as everyone else did. Perhaps they received what they always wanted without ever receiving what they needed.
