A Night to Remember
Have you ever felt like you don't live your life to it's fullest' Was there ever a time that you felt left out, or trapped in your own world because you don't do what everybody else does' I felt like that almost throughout my whole teenage years. One night I said, “It's time to get out this hole and live.” Turns out that it became one of the worst nights of my life. I was rushed to the emergency room at 3:30a.m. because someone had poisoned my drink. I don’t remember a lot, but I was told by my peers what really happened.
I had just graduated from high school on June 2, 2009, and I couldn’t wait to celebrate my accomplishment. On Friday June 5, I stepped out the house, looked up at the sky, and I saw how beautiful it was. Right then I thought to myself that nothing can possibly go wrong. I was looking forward to having a night to remember. My cousin, Sharon and I pulled up to Jarrett's house at around 1a.m. While I walked around nodding my head to the music, I looked behind me, and Sharon was gone. I walked to the kitchen and I saw this guy pouring Hennesey in her cup. Sharon drinks occasionally, but I never had anything more than a wine cooler. After Sharon had a couple more drinks, I noticed that she started to get drunk. I just told her to take it easy and don’t drink anymore. Like around 1:30a.m, most of the people in the house were drinking. They kept pushing me and saying, “Come on Maria, we just graduated so let’s get drunk!” I just laughed and thought that a couple of drinks wouldn’t hurt. The first thing I drank was a mixture of Crown Royal and Coke. I tasted the alcohol more than the coke, so I told the bartender that, “That's weak, give me something stronger!” As I had refills, I danced around the room and started getting a little bit out of control. While I was dancing, Sharon called me over to the bar and said, “Come on lets drink Flor De Cana!”
Sharon and I started taking shots with these two Mexican girls named Heather and Jennifer. Heather and Jennifer were challenging us to see who can have the most shots. Sharon and I high fived each other and said, “Lets show them how Nicaraguans do it.” The girls and I were drinking, laughing, and having a good time. We got down to our sixth shot at 2:30am. We took that shot at the same time, and after I took a bite of my lemon we all agreed to take a break and just mingle for a while. I went to the restroom and I noticed I started to feel dizzy. My vision was so blurry and I started to see triple. As I walked, my friend Casey was on my left side helping me, while I'm leaning on the wall trying not to twist my ankle and fall. Before I can make it to the toilet, I started vomiting all over the floor and cabinets. I had vomited a burger and fries, some nachos, plus all the alcohol I drank. What made me vomit even more was the smell. The smell came out to b a mixture of expired food and a dirty diaper. It might sound over exaggerating, but that's how it really smelled.
After a while, I was unconscious on the bathroom floor. I remember Casey yelling from the top of her lungs for help. Although, Sharon was drunk, she managed to help me the best way she could. She wiped all the vomit off of my body, rubbed my head and telling me, “It'll be okay, we're going to get through this”, then rushed me to the Renaissance hospital. While I was in the room I was still vomiting. Only difference this time, was a mixture of blood and liquor. I vomit so much that night, I felt like I almost through up my intestines. A couple of hours later, the Doctor told me that somebody poisoned me. Just the thought of somebody that can have the heart to do such a thing made me feel even worse.
Ever since that horrible night, I don’t drink anymore. I made a promise to myself that I would never drink alcohol again. At that moment while I was drinking with those girls I wasn’t thinking about right or wrong or what will happen in the next two hours. I just know that I wanted a night to remember which I did get, but not a good night. That experience will always be with me. I can’t go back to that day nor change it. But I learned that I should always follow my own footsteps, and think twice before I act.
