The School For Scandal The School For Scandal In this play we find a truly sordid cast of characters. The entire play is based upon the deception of others, all in the name of fashionable congress. The characters lie to each other for amusement, and they constantly seek to belittle their peers. An innocent country girl is thrust into this scene, and, due to her beauty and simplicity, is taken by the devilishness of the affairs that confront her. Of course, there are more than enough willing participants to corrupt her. One is constantly left wondering if she will ever be able to return to herself and the values that once made her so charming. In the beginning it would seem that Lady Teazle has already been a bit corrupted by those who surround her.
