Many oppressions and injustices have overwhelmed communities all over the world. However, artists have discovered a way to lighten these burdens by creating what is now known as popular theatre. This can be defined as a performance done for a community and occasionally by a community, in order to depict their predicaments and discuss them as a group. This dramatization of worldwide inequalities is an effective tool that can be utilized to work towards societal change, in spite of its limitations.
To begin, popular theatre brings people together. It gives individuals the opportunity to share experiences and ordeals with other people consequently making them believe like they belong somewhere. Commonality is also created and acknowledged by all participants. They recognize their own pattern of life and realize that they are not alone. Even when confronted with a personal situation, you are more likely to inquire someone for his or her advice, than deduce a solution on your own. Thus, it is not so preposterous to want to participate in a type of theatre where people are heard and helped. An example that illustrates this point of view is in an article about a project in the
