Cobb A Critique of the Play, Cobb The emotional play, Cobb, is a narrative of the life of the baseball great, Ty Cobb. This traditional play written by Lee Blessing, allows you to see three generations of Cobb’s life simultaneously. The three characters that depicted the different ages of Cobb’s life were energetic and entertaining. Their sound projection and overall performance were commendable, despite the few brief pauses and hesitations made by the three actors. This play kept you involved and entertained, by switching from one generation to the next. The text also implies the different morals and codes of conduct that were acceptable at the three times. The text of the play is meant to show the turmoil and heartbreak of one mans life. The play shows the disgust and heartache of his life. The first time period shows a young, naive, and overconfident Cobb. This period takes place circa 1900, and shows the early beginnings of the all American sport, baseball. Cobb is dressed in an antique baseball uniform and the short-tempered legend always resorts to fighting to solve all problems.
