Giles Corey Giles Corey The Crucible written by Arthur Miller was a play that portrayed many characters with many different characterizations; Giles Corey was one of those characters. Giles Corey was a man not many people of his town could put a finger on. He is an older gentleman about 83, and built like an ox, but had a heart of gold. Some people didn’t like him very much because of his outspokenness, like Thomas Putnam. Other people loved having him around because he was a hard worker and was a pleasure to have a conversation with, like John Proctor. Then he has a third side that is a lawyer side. He is a man of many different talents and personalities. Thomas Putnam didn’t like Giles because he wasn’t afraid to speak up to him about anything even land issues. Giles was the one who helped John Proctor cut his trees and drag them, but Putnam thought the land was his by his grandfather’s will. “It stands clear in my grandfathers will that all thew land between the river and-” (Miller 32).
