The Downfall Of Male Sports The downfall of Male Sports In 1972 Title IX of the Education Amendments Act outlawed discrimination based on gender in education, including school sports. Title IX has brought monumental changes for female athletics. Participation in women’s sports has increased dramatically; according to NCAA reports, from 1973 to 1993 the average number of women competing at NCAA schools increased 112.04 percent (1). Schools also additional funding on women's athletics. In 1973, the amount spent on college sports programs for women for most schools was less than ten thousand dollars.
