Sociology Of Sport Men Vs. Women
This issue has been on the forefront of college campuses the country over; this issue is gender equality in sports, introduced in 1972 as Title IX of the Education Amendments, was put in place to set standards for universities; stating in short that no person in the United States on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation, nor be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program receiving federal financial assistance (collegenews).
The basis of my arguments will be the pros and cons of men vs. women in sports and the impact that women have had on college campuses and in the media. It is in the news as well as on campuses that Title IX is responsible for the reduction in the support for mens sports and ultimately the elimination of some programs to make way for the federal regulations for equity numbers in womens programs. Since many mens programs are being done away with at Division I schools to meet numbers many are getting frustrated and even suing. At California State University (Northridge), the university made national headlines by eliminating four mens sports teams. Taken in a recent Supreme Court decision keeping bans
