Introduction There are hundreds of accidents that occur everyday throughout the world; many of which result in amputation due to unsaveable body parts. After an amputation there is a long road ahead for the individual not only to maintain normal living, but also to function properly in everyday tasks. Many amputees feel that after an amputation there is no way that they could possibly live a normal life again; however, with the aid of weight therapy it is possible to maintain the function of a limb. Unfortunately, weight therapy for amputees is an area that has not been explored. The focal point of my evaluation is the advantages of weight therapy for people with prosthesis. II. Definition The Columbia Encyclopedia Sixth Edition defines a prosthetic, or an artificial limb, as a mechanical replacement for a missing limb. A prosthesis must be light and flexible to permit easy movement, but also sufficiently sturdy to support the weight of the body or to manipulate objects.
