NHL Hockey Masks In the NHL, the players should have a choice over if they want to wear full masks, a half shield, or even no shield at all. In the NHL, hockey players are only allowed to wear half-shields or even no shield at all. Why can’t they choose to wear full shields' Opponent’s say that if a hockey player wears a full shield they it will cause more penalties. Although this may be true, it will surly save a lot of injuries. I don’t know about other people, but I would rather take or receive a penalty rather than risk my own eyesight or someone else’s. So what if there will be a few more minor penalties, it’s better than a few more damaged eyes.
