Stereotypes In Movies
Throughout the age of cinema, Latin American actors have usually been stereotyped in
the roles that they portray. They are often seen on screen as poverty stricken individuals that
gather in packs, gangsters and or drug dealers involved in some seedy part of the underworld, or
at the least people with no education that value getting a fast buck. Another stereotype that
conflicts these aforementioned stereotypes is their deep rooted religious beliefs and family
values. In my personal opinion stereotyping the Latin American race in movies is not a problem.
Stereotyping of every race is something that will continue to go on in movies, it adds to the story
line, it conveys the authors message and vision, it is necessary when telling the story. When a
screenplay is written its writer has a specific vision in how the film should be carried out. Each
character even in the smallest role is designed as an integral part to the piece of this puzzle that
the writer is presenting to the audience. When I personally view a movie, I go in with the
intention of being entertained not with the intention of critiquing the writer and director of the
film as racists. I believe that stereotyping in
stereotype, stereotyping, movie, people, white, latin, seen, rich, cuban, poor, movies, family, one, believe, being, american, played, cubans, because, americans, writer, woman, tony, story, scarface, say, religious, race, power, out, go, film, every, either, drug, dream
