Restaurant owners, dry cleaners, and convenient stores could just be showing their appreciation for the officers’ hard work. On the other hand if businesses show favoritism to police officers, paying customers might feel resentment towards both the police officers and businesses. If businesses give gratuities, police officers may expect special treatment from every place they go to, and if they do not receive special treatment, this could cause problems. 2. Discuss the justifications and criticism of undercover operations. Some of the justifications of under cover work are: -The government is given the power to do so -Undercover work is ethical when it is used for a good and important end -Ethical if there are grounds to suspect serious crime is planned or has been carried out -Ethical if work is directed towards persons whom there are reasonable grounds to suspect -Special risks justify special precautions -Ethical when it is the best means -Convict the guilty Some of the criticisms are: -Lying is immoral -Government should not make deals with criminals -Government should not participate, be a party to crime, or break laws to enforce them -Government should reduce crime not increase officers, police, tell, moral, suspect, supervisor, knowledge, help, defense, should, loyalty, good, go, work, values, specific, special, something, resolution, officer, issues, issue, immediate, facts, dilemma, crime, come, act, ethical, job, integrity, have, duty, wrong, while, treatment
