Suicide In The Queer Population Suicidality In The Queer Population Introduction This research paper will explore the issue of suicidality in the queer population, including the unique risk factors, warning signs, and special needs of queers. Attention will be paid to the special needs and risk factors of queer youth. Both local and national resources will be listed for immediate emergencies, and also for referral to others who may need them. I found that it was difficult to gather information about suicide specifically related to the queer population. Several reputable sources such as the American Association of Suicidology and The American Foundation For Suicide Prevention gave quality information relative to suicide, but didn’t seem to address the queer population specifically. I found that until recently, this segment of our population, although at higher risk than the remainder of the population, has gone relatively ignored when it comes to suicide issues. Suicide gestures are actions that are unlikely to be fatal, and are often a cry for help from a desperate, hopeless person.
