Marijuana Marijuana At the age of twenty-one, a person is considered to be entering adulthood. It is the age of consent and the age at which one is allowed to drink alcohol and go to prison. The American government, however, does not think that an adult who is able to make his or her own decisions in life is capable of making a choice about whether or not to stay drug free. Prohibition of marijuana in 1937 was very reminiscent of the prohibition of alcohol, which led to increase in crime, distrust, and felonies. If the goal of the government is to stop Americans from smoking by banning marijuana, it will turn out just as pointless as keeping America “dry.” It took thirteen years, from 1922 to 1930, to realize that the Prohibition Act was a mistake. It is just a matter of time before the realization of the stupidity of marijuana exclusion will hit the nation. Millions of people die in the country every year. The main “drug” causing death, however, is tobacco.
