Roots In many cultures, there is a phase in a young man’s life, which can be interpreted as a rite of passage. In this sense, it is a bridge from childhood to manhood that must be done in order to become a “man.” This can be related to our membership intake process, in the sense of the process also being a rite of passage— transforming from an individual with no knowledge of the history or importance of a Sorority , into an individual who can express, and acknowledge the true essence of sisterhood. This section of the novel depicts the story of a young man kunta kinte who has reached the point in his life when he must go mandatory “manhood training.” In his village, all the young men were gathered up and sent to“manhood training” boot camp like scenario when they reached a certain age.
