Relationships INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS Thesis statement: The United States has witnessed a considerable social and cultural desegregation of African American and Caucasian Americans. However, despite years of desegregation, racial and cultural differences still exist. I show these differences still exist in the interracial relationships. I. Americans have been and are continually moving slowly away from segregation. A. Since the 1960s African Americans have been allowed to move into mainly Caucasian neighborhoods. B. Integration on campuses is now more apparent then ever before. 1. Students chat together 2. Students study together C. African Americans and Caucasians issues have converged. II. Despite these examples of desegregations, there are still signs that African Americans and Caucasians still shouldn’t be together, it is more apparent in interracial relationships. III. One major barrier of interracial relationships lies in the family of the couples. A. Louis, a Caucasian women, and Chuck, a African American man, were married in 1960. 1. They had no prejudice against each other. 2. They both have mixed group of friends. 3. They had problems with their families. a). Louis’s mother had to ask why she couldn’t marry her own kind. b). This conflict finally caused the ties between mother and daughter to break. B. Mama, A Caucasian Jewish, married an African American man 1. None of family attend except her mother. 2.
