Postville Driving in Iowa Choosing a topic for my paper was not the easiest decision, there were so many different issues that one could choose from; whether entail the taking sides with the locals or the Jews, or to siding with the way Bloom describes Iowa life. The topic that correlated to me was driving in Iowa as Bloom had seen it. Bloom described Iowa drivers by saying that “Most Iowans drove large American-made automobiles, and they drove ever-so-slowly, almost never over the speed limit. They rarely passed other cars. On Iowa freeways, motorists gladly allowed merging cars into the stream of traffic with a smile and a pleasant horizontal wave.” Having been driving in Des Moines since I received my license, I have a very different point of view. Not only do I have experience with driving in Iowa, I also work in the construction business over the past four years, causing me to deal with Iowan drivers on a daily basis. Each morning I jump into my car and head to the job site most likely in Des Moines.
