Capital Punishment A 1997 study revealed that over three hundred innocent people are “sitting” on death row. Of these individuals, twenty will actually be executed. Innocent people are being murdered in our criminal justice system. Simply put by Professor Nathanson of the University of California, “ To maintain the death penalty is to be willing to risk innocent lives.” The only possible benefit of the death penalty is that the punishment may satisfy the desire for revenge, but should citizens allow these negative emotions to dominate judicial systems around the world' Capital punishment is wrong. The death sentence gambles with the insurmountable, appalling possibility of killing innocent people. Courtrooms around the world are allowing human emotions to determine the outcomes of trials. Morally unethical, capital punishment is an atrocious form of justice. Capital punishment risks killing innocent people. The state has murdered guiltless people in the past. In the future the state will be wrongfully execute more innocent people. The wrongful execution of a guiltless person is a dreadful injustice. When an innocent person is put to death, the true criminal is still at large.
