Parents recognise that their children must have sound foundation to compete for jobs in the future, hence they take the enrolment of children into good schools very seriously. With so many children competing for limited places in prestigious schools, the teachers are forced to conduct interviews or academic ability diagnostic tests to sieve out the best. Yearning to measure up to their parents’ expectations, the children put pressure on themselves to perform better than their competitors.
