Asian Women in America Eastern and western societies have been in constant conflict with one another in moral and social issues. One recurring issue is the role that women should play in society. In America, the idea that “All men are created equal,” applies to both men and women. Women are given the choice to work and to be independent from their families, even without a husband. Asian culture still heavily insists that the right place for women is at home. Asia lacks the women’s revolution that swept across the West, especially the radical idea that women can live with out men. While women in Asia are extremely reserved and submissive to their husbands, Asian women in America have rediscovered themselves and gone beyond the shadow of men. The conventional idea that women should stay at home with the children is not outdated in Asia; instead, it is a way of life. If women are given opportunities to pursue careers, they are only expected to do well as nurses, textile workers, or teachers. This idea comes from the suggestion that women are more caring and detail oriented, that they are only good at certain things.
