Is Macbeth Responsible For His Actions' In the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, the character Macbeth finds the true identity of what being a king is really like. Through his actions and words Macbeth proves that a man can change from a noble, kind, and caring person into a selfish, and arrogant one. Macbeth is definitely responsible for his actions in the novel, through the theme of greed, although some influences altered his true abilities. The need for the crown, Lady Macbeth, and the thought of complete control all lead Macbeth into a complete downfall, by the end of the play. In the beginning of the play Macbeth is unmistakably curios of what being a king would really be like. He encounters many dreams and possibilities of ruling over Scotland. And, when the witches describe the future of Macbeth, and how he will become king completely overwhelms Macbeth. He suddenly feels the sensation of the crown, and how everything could be his. " If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me Without my stir." (Pg. 25).
