Courtship Of Today And Of 1900 Courtship’s of the 1900 and Today. Courtship in the 1900 and today are very different. As showed in Thomas Hardy novel, Far From the Madding Crowd the courting rituals of today are far different from the rituals of the 1900’s. There were rules and rituals that were to be followed. Courting was a very delicate thing that was done with tedious care. The behavior of women was different also. The women were treated not as equals but, delicate beings, that needed to be cared for. Men’s roles in society and their behavior was different also. In this research paper, those difference will be discussed and examples will be given. Hopefully, this will enlighten us to the constant changes of courtship rituals. Men and women today find it much easier to date and even be platonic friends, than in the 1900’s. Today courtships are short, women often kiss their date good bye on the first date. An article which is entitled, “Courting rituals in 1900 Versus Courting rituals in 2000,” displays a skit type format.
