Hamlet Analysis of Hamlet After careful reading and intense attempts to analyze Shakespeare's Hamlet, I just became more confused with the character of Hamlet. The more I read about Hamlet, the less I understood him. He shows traits and characteristics of being cautious and impulsive, brave and cowardly, contemplative and erratic, Hamlet is enigmatic. Is there really a method to his actions or is he just mad' I believe Hamlet is capable showing all of these traits because all of the stress in his life has surfaced other personalities that no one has ever seen before. Hamlet warns Horatio of his antic dispositions but I think that his irrational character is only half act and the rest sincere. Hamlet is a very intelligent and manipulating prince, he uses his antic dispositions to obtain and analyze reactions from those he knows little about. The mad behavior is also a diversion in Hamlet’s plot to kill the king. Perhaps the most impportant role of the antic disposition is the chance it gives Hamlet to release anger and show some of his real emotions.
