Heats Of Combustion
Experiment: 1
Heat Capacity For Gases
Abstract
There are many interesting tools used to measure the heat capacity of a gas. In this particular observation a monometer along with an 18L carboy was used to manifest the values calculated for He, N2, CO2. The mean values for this experiment at 24 0C and 763 Torr are as follows: gCO2 = 1.26, gN2 = 0.74, and gHe = 0.67. Some of these values hold a significant difference from their theoretical values, which are as follows: gCO2 = 1.39, gN2 = 1.40, and gHe = 1.67. As you can see these values differ greatly. There are several reasons for the large experimental error, which will be mentioned later in the discussion section.
Introduction:
This experiment was designed to evaluate the heat capacity ratios for the following gases: He, N2, CO2. There are two different methods talked about on how one would go about studying this experiment 1st is the sound velocity method and the 2nd is the adiabatic method. The adiabatic method takes into account the molecular degrees of freedom i.e. (translational, rotational, vibrational) a molecule possess. In order for us to be able to calculate some
