Obese Coping with a Illness of Obesity Living in the United States has increased the risks for any individual of being overweight. “ Obesity is a chronic illness that can be defined as an increase in body weight beyond the limitation of skeletal and physical requirement, as the result of an excessive accumulation of fat in the body” (Rolfes,Whitney,2002). There are more than 80% of individuals in the United States who are obese. The numbers are increasing each day because more and more people are not educated on this topic. Parents need to be educated on the risks of obesity because children are highly susceptible to adult onset diabetes. The society we live in needs to be educated on this topic because we tend to accept eating in larger quantities, double sizing from fast food chains and eating whatever we want. In reality we just need to take the time and go back to the food pyramid we were once taught. This paper will highlight the important factors of being obese and what is involved from how we cope with this disease. Obesity can be treated with medications, surgery, supplements, fasting and education.
