Stem Cell Research STEM CELL RESEARCH Stem cell are found in embryos, umbilical cords, children and adults. Stem cells are blank cells that produce all cells in the body. After conception a ball of cells form called a blastocyst at this stage is where you will find the stems thats that have the potential to grow into all cells that you find in the human body. Stem cell research has proved that taking stem cells and growing them until you find the certain cell you are looking for, (liver, heart, brain, etc.) you can insert them into a human with and the new cells will replace the existing damaged cells. This research has the potential to cure all diseases. All disease exist because the cells are damaged or overwhelmed, this process of replacing damaged cells with new cells is a breakthrough in medical technology. According to James Thomson and John Gearhart, stem cells could potentially be used for such things as : Growing nerve cells to repair spinal cord injuries and restore function to paralyzed limbs. Making heart muscle cells to replace useless scar tissue after a heart attack. Growing brain cells that would secrete dopamine for the treatment and control of Parkinson’s disease.
