Barometric Pressure
BAROMETRIC PRESSURE
Barometric Pressure is defined as the weigh of a column of air extending from the ground up to the limits of the atmosphere. Although pressure is an invisible force, similar to gravity, it can also be measured by observing a properly set- up barometer. The barometric pressure is measured in units called either atmospheres, or bars (from barometer). The pressure can also be measured in millimeters, or in older times inches, of mercury.
This air pressure, although we cannot see it, directly affects our surroundings and weather every day. The main reason why we cannot feel barometric pressure pushing down on our bodies is because the forces of pressure are balanced by the hydrodynamics of the human body. Sometimes the pressure is so high or low compared to other days, people claim they can feel the change in weather coming. Also, when you change altitudes, for example from sea level up to the mountains, you could probably feel the pressure change. The pressure on the mountain is lower, because less air is pushing down on you. This can affect your blood flow and the amount of oxygen in your blood to change
