History Of Deuteronomy Underline Story of Deuteronomy Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Old Testament, generally portrays the Hebrew people's appreciation and obedience in the presence of a gracious God whose acts have set them free (Christensen 59). Deuteronomy serves as a message and reminder to all Hebrews about the path they must follow in order to remain in God's favor. By a process of faith, trust in God's messages and obedience to God's rules, is a central part of the Hebrew identity and central part of the Hebrew identity and central to the book of Deuteronomy as a whole. Deuteronomy 26 ends the section of the book dedicated to the messages given to Moses from God that provide outline and guidance for life. God promises the Hebrews and Moses a new life and a new land with freedom and joy.
