I will be focusing mainly on table wines because they make up the majority of wines on the market. Most table wines are white, red, or pink. Wine is made from grapes. The taste of the wine has much to do with the type of grapes that were used. They influence the wine’s flavor, acidity, alcohol content, and its color. White wine is made by crushing the grapes and then the juice is separated from the skins. In red wine, the grape juice ferments while it is in the grape skin. The pink colored wine is made from red grapes that were not fermented with skins. Table wines have an alcohol content level from 10 to 14 percent. The making and drinking of wine goes back to about 8,000 years ago. In Greek mythology, there was a god of wine. His name was Dionysus. The Roman god of wine was Bacchus. In the early 1900’s alcoholism got a little out of hand. The sale of alcohol in the United States became illegal during the Prohibition movement.
