Two Major Influences In Egypt Two Major Influences At one period Christianity was the religion of Egypt, but Muslims still had a small influence. Eventually the Muslims gained control and converted the majority of Egypt back to the Islamic Faith. We can still see to this day the influence of the Christian religion; it is extremely obvious in Ancient Egyptian temples. The Christians held power for a short period of time in Egypt before taken over, but this religion was able to leave remains of their existence through temples. Early Christians reflected destructive and violent types of beliefs. It was common for them to take over the temples they liked and destroy what they didn’t like. By doing this Christians believed there actions would reflect their growing power. The early Christians took over the Temple of Philae in Aswan in the 5th century. The temple now reveals marked out images, knocked down pillars and an old church built in the center of the temple. In result much of the Christians actions, most of the temple is defaced, but they did ensure their mark.
