Religious Education History and Theories in Religious Education CATOLICITHY AND RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Introduction At the beginning of the third millennium Religious Education is facing a new challenge. Our life is speeding up, our values are changing especially in developed countries. Our pluralism contemporary society is changing the values from community centered to individual material centered. The globalization of economy and wealth, recessions and collapse of economies wider the gap between the rich and poor. This trend is followed by huge migration from undeveloped countries to highly developed countries where economic, cultural and racial tensions are deepening between groups and individuals. (Example: War in Iraq, Right wing Neo Nazi groups in Europe, Tribe wars in Africa, Holly Wars in the Middle East or the refuge crises in Australia.) The globalization of the economy and the exploitation of the earth (deforesting, dumping dangerous materials into developing countries territory, and letting carbon dioxide into air) exposed global warming, extinction of animals and the thickening of ozone layer. We are facing the above-mentioned difficulties globally and locally as well. Obviously these problems are surfacing one way or other in our closer environment such as school, home or small communities.
