Chanukah

Chanukah Chanukah is a celebration practiced by people of the Jewish faith. Chanukah is celebrated from November 30th to December 7th every year. Chanukah is a very important holiday to the Jewish people. Chanukah is a celebration of their ancestors victory over the Pagan Seleucid Greeks to win their religious freedom. This allowed them to continue there religion and it also allowed them to live a free and independent life. The holiday lasts eight days because of an event that took place after their victory. The holiday is not as important as some other Jewish holidays because Jewish people don’t celebrate war, but it is still a important event that is celebrated. A little over two thousand years ago in the area we know as Israel there was a great struggle between the oppressive Syrian Empire and the Jews. The Jewish people have lived there for centuries but King Antiochus III took the land from King Ptolemy. Antiochus III the king of Syria wagered war with King Ptolemy of Egypt for the land we know as Israel, and Antiochus III had won it after the war. Before it was taken, the land was peaceful and serene.
