Martin Luther Martin Luther is best known as the person who started the reformation, which lead into the protestant division of Christianity. It all started when Luther felt he didn’t agree which the teachings of the Catholic Church, which dominated society at that time. He went on to write the 95 theses and nailed it to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church. Martin Luther’s Early Years (1483-1516) On November 10, 1483 Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, Germany to Hans and Margaretta Luther. The following day he was baptized in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. At age thirteen Luther began boarding school in Magdeburg, Germany. Then at age seventeen Luther began studying liberal arts at the University of Erfurt, which was one of the best universities at the time. At the age of twenty-one Luther received his Master’s degree and entered law school. Then Luther at the age of twenty-two took his monastic vows and became a monk in the Catholic Church. The year after, Luther was ordained into the priesthood. Several years later Luther became a Doctor of Theology.
