Proverbs 1: 8-19
The book of Proverbs that is found in the Old Testament it is a book full of proverbs, parables and similes. A proverb is a short, concise sentence that conveys moral truth. These stories, told of the mouths of wise men, give way to the correct conduct for which we our to live our lives, in both terms of what is right and what is prudent. The book of Proverbs is also the bibles best example of wisdom literature focusing mostly on everyday life. Each Proverb or story is of its own, sometimes the parables are grouped by subject matter but always without context. The fact that they are without context can make it difficult to know whom the original audience was or what the author was trying to communicate exactly. Throughout Proverbs the reader is reminded, God is in control, and this is seen repeatedly when the book states that a person will reap what he sows.
The author given credit for most of the maxims or parables in the book of Proverbs is Solomon. Solomon is said to have written/spoken 3,000 proverbs, however he is not the lone author of this book.
