Most of the time fear is caused by a bad childhood experience that is suppressed into the unconscious mind. A common fear is the fear of driving over bridges. Many people are afraid of driving over bridges but it will not stop them from doing so. That is the difference of having a fear or a phobia. A fear will not stop you from doing what you need to do, but a phobia will stop you. There are many different ways of interpreting how this fear started.
