The Cider House Rules An Analysis of the First Two Years Based on the Formal Organization The subject of this paper is the first two years of life based on the book, “The Cider House Rules.” “The Cider House Rules” is a book about an orphanage in the town of St. Clouds’, Maine. Once a prominent logging town, St. Clouds’ now consisted of abandoned buildings, prostitutes and the children of prostitutes. (Irving et al, 1985) Also located in that depressed little town was an orphanage, simply called St. Clouds’. A man named Dr. Larch founded St. Clouds’ orphanage in 192_. He opened it with a dual purpose in mind. Not only is it an orphanage but a hospital, a hospital that clandestinely performs abortions. Women choose St. Clouds’ to have an abortion because they hear that the people are kind, it is a clean place in which after the procedure they won’t die, and because it is free. Women decided to have an orphan there because the child will stay at St. Clouds’ and be well taken care of until they are adopted.
