States Once a state (with all its entities) is in place the challenges of becoming a unified community take hold. The word nation describes this community. It consists of people who share a common ethnic origin, culture, historical tradition, and language. Organized under a single government, nations function on a sort of notion of “who we are as opposed to who we are not”. Within these nations, political culture and socialization emerge. The functioning of political institutions at least partially reflects the attitudes, norms, and expectations of the citizenry .
